This was a last minute decision to run during the January VHF Contest, but it turned out pretty good.
I wasn’t sure I’d have the time off work or the time away from home, but I was able to work it part of the day. It was snowing that day on the hills but that wasn’t going to stop me from making a huge mess inside the truck.
To follow the rules and log it as QRP Portable, I had to run portable antennas and run on portable power. So I had coax running inside the cab, my LiFePO4 battery packs and my Elecraft KX3 inside the truck (my shelter).
It went pretty well. I only got to run about 5 hours, but made 80 contacts. Not bad. Below is a video of one I made on 1.2GHz USB. That was a lot of fun seeing it in action.
